Understanding the difference between a building designer and an architect 

Building designers’ roles and skills sets have immensely evolved since the days of being known as draftspeople. Today, building designers are known to design incredibly unique, innovative homes. They come from a design-related background or formal education in design fields. This can also include having degrees and experience in architecture, though they may not be officially registered architects.

In Victoria, a qualified building designer will be registered with the Victorian Building Authority. To legally identify as an architect, the architect will be officially registered with the state architecture body and have completed a formal tertiary education or degree in architecture.
